Hi! I’m Shanelle, your trusted partner in care. I have been working with breastfeeding families for several years, in both hospital and outpatient settings as a registered nurse (RN) and internationally board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC).

(The day I met my 6lb 5oz ball of sass)
I help families with common breastfeeding challenges like sore nipples, clogged ducts, or low milk supply. I also offer support around sleep, going back to work, starting solids, weaning, and understanding your baby’s development—whatever stage you’re in, you don’t have to figure it out alone!

I am happy to meet you where you are and draw from my professional expertise and personal experiences as a mother in my work.

I believe in the power of positivity and have seen how it can be transformative during challenging periods.

I believe in normalizing breastfeeding in public but support all families in their preferences!

That double chin is one my proudest accomplishments. It’s amazing what our bodies can do!

Breastfeeding provides numerous benefits for both you and your baby. Breast milk is the perfect food for infants and contains all the necessary nutrients for growth and development. It also helps to boost the baby's immune system and can lower the risk of certain illnesses. For mothers, breastfeeding can help to reduce the risk of certain cancers and promote bonding with baby.
Contact Milky Weigh Lactation Services! I can help to identify any issues and provide you with the support and education you need to successfully breastfeed your baby.
Newborns should be breastfed on demand, which is typically every 2-3 hours, but sometimes sooner. As your baby grows, they may need to breastfeed less frequently. It's important to follow your baby's cues and breastfeed when they are hungry.
Yes! I am currently in-network with many commercial plans under Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), United Healthcare (UHC), Cigna, and Aetna, among others. I also offer an option to pay out-of-pocket and can provide you with a superbill, if necessary.
Both! Milky Weigh Lactation Services is located in Maryland and provides in-home visits within the Silver Spring and Bethesda metro areas. Telehealth visits are available nationwide. Please contact me to confirm availability.
Absolutely! Actually, the name Milky Weigh is a play on words based on the fact that we can weigh the amount of milk your baby drinks from your breasts using our highly sensitive scale. This helps remove the guesswork of trying to figure out how much your baby is getting during the feed, which, unlike bottle feeding, can be more challenging to determine. Outside of using the scale, we can use other clues like swallowing, softer breasts, and diaper output to see how baby is doing at the breast.
I'm happy to meet with you where you are, at whatever stage you are in. Certainly reach out sooner than later if you are experiencing problems like breast/nipple pain, latch issues, engorgement, clogged ducts/mastitis, or a sleepy baby at the breast. Outside of postpartum challenges, it is a great idea to reach out for general concerns or before your baby arrives to help manage expectations and make a solid feeding plan.
